Feed Your Best Friend Better - 2nd printing

Tags

When I send in the final version of Feed Your Best Friend Better people asked me what would my goals were for the book and how I'd know it was successful. For me the book was never about making money, it was about providing something different than currently on the market and dispelling some of the myths about how we feed our dogs. I had three goals:

  • The book was written so that is easy, accessible and packed with information for pet owners.  FYBFB is packed with information that I wanted to know as a pet owner and items like the feeding sizes, calorie charts and the chapter on Foods Worth Sharing were meant to be novel but understandable. With 55 of 64 ratings on amazon.com, I feel that this objective has been met.  FYBFB bounces around in the sales rank from week to week but continually makes an appearance on the top 20 culinary arts section of amazon and is currently the highest ranked dog food cookbook.
  • Breaking with tradition and telling people to feed their dogs actual food required a delicate balancing act. I wanted veterinarians to respect the philosophy and to live up to their expectations. I often receive e-mails from veterinarians and pet owners who found my book based upon their veterinarian's recommendation so I feel that this objective has been met.
  • Each time a book is sold one or more dogs receive the benefits of a healthier mealtime. Now that the first printing has sold through, another 5,000 copies have been delivered to the publisher's warehouse. I've made a few tweaks based upon questions from readers and things that I've learned for the 2nd printing.  To know that 12,000+ dogs have benefited from Jackson's legacy feels pretty good.

Yep, I believe Feed Your Best Friend Better is a success but I couldn't have done it alone. I appreciate all the pet owners who were open to learning something new, veterinarians who recommended the book, the media that has helped to publicize the book and my publisher for taking a risk on a very different type of book and allowing to stretch the limits on how the book was structured.

Wait until you see what I have in store for book #2!
